SWANA NJ is pleased to announce the winners of the 2022 Grant H. Flint Scholarship and the Robert P. Stearns/SCS Engineers Scholarship. The annual scholarships are awarded to children or grandchildren of SWANA NJ members and offer financial assistance for college education.

Six students were awarded the 2022 Grant H. Flint Scholarship, Category I, which is open to high school seniors entering junior college or a four-year college/university. Joseph Buono of Wall Township and Christopher Ryan of Fairhaven were awarded $1,500. Aidan Davis of Egg Harbor Township, Benjamin Farrow of Chesterfield, Meadow Rosenthal of Woodbine and Ryann Sheehan of Medford were awarded $1,250.

Each year, the top candidate is forwarded to SWANA’s International Scholarship Committee for review. Joseph Buono was selected to represent New Jersey and was awarded an additional $5,000. Joseph is the third candidate from New Jersey to win on the international level in the past six years.

The Robert P. Stearns/SCS Engineers Scholarship is open to graduate students studying environmental science, engineering or another field related to solid waste or resource management. Shivam Chhabra of Edison was selected as the recipient of this scholarship and was awarded $1,500.

“We are proud of the fact that the SWANA scholarship program helps to support students in their pursuit of higher education,” said SWANA NJ Chapter President Brian Henning. “The program aids the families of SWANA members and promotes educational fields related to solid waste management.”

Full-time students can become SWANA members at no cost. Students who join SWANA can network with professionals in the solid waste industry and have access to resources to help start their career.
